Congratulations to the 2025 Family Law Awards winners

Forensic Testing For Local Authorities

FTS congratulates the winners and nominees of the recent 2025 Family Law Awards. The prestigious awards reflect the tireless work solicitors, barristers, and local authority teams do for families every day.

As a trusted testing partner to many of those honoured at the event, FTS sees firsthand how hard they work to support fair safeguarding outcomes for children and families. We are proud to play a small part in that work.

Why accredited drug and alcohol testing matters

In family law cases, timely and court-compliant toxicology has an important role in the protection of children.

Accredited hair, blood and nail testing can help courts make evidence-based safeguarding decisions for children, by offering a clear, objective picture of substance use over time, helping courts and social workers to understand parental capacity to care.

When instructed properly as expert opinion evidence, these tests can reduce delays and costs, helping to shape the correct care plans and assessment the first time around.

Our commitment to doing right by families

Family law is challenging and emotionally fraught. Families and professionals navigate trauma, substance misuse and funding constraints under intense public scrutiny.

Against that backdrop, FTS’s role is to support the right result in child safeguarding decisions. We were set up specifically to improve outcomes in care proceedings and have a reputation for taking the most rigorous approach to testing in the industry.

At FTS, we prioritise:

  • Compliance with UK legal guidance on hair strand testing, including High Court and Court of Appeal rulings: Our results are interpreted with the full context of the case and all associated influencing factors, rather than relying on arbitrary Society of Hair Testing cut-off levels. Our reports go beyond simplistic certificates of analysis to outline all findings and explain what they mean, as is required.
  • Support for the PLO process: We are trusted by over 50 Local Authorities and hundreds of solicitor firms to help them navigate the PLO process more efficiently, protect safeguarding concerns and avoid misleading or contested results. This ensures Local Authority spending remains as time-efficient and cost-effective as possible.
  • Rigorous scientific interpretation and reporting: We conduct accredited forensic investigations with strict chain of custody protocols to deliver the most comprehensive court-compliant reports in the industry.

Together we improve family outcomes

To all those involved in family law, your work continues to inspire us. Many of you already work with FTS or share the same values as we do. We look forward to supporting others in 2026.
