FTS quality and accreditations
FTS are an accredited laboratory 7550 to the International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2005 by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), this is the key indicator of the reliability and legal defensibility of our test results and service provision.
As you may already be aware all laboratories involved in hair strand analysis that have or seek the accreditation in the UK have to go through the process of being re-accredited annually by UKAS, the accreditation body for analytical laboratories.
FTS where last assessed towards the end of September 2016 to make sure we meet the new standards, FTS have been successful and have received the UKAS Certificate of Accreditation for the stringent new standards.
UKAS themselves state the following:
"The internationally recognised standard for the competence of laboratories is ISO/IEC 17025:2005. It is the standard against which UKAS accredits testing laboratories. It is the standard you should look for.
ISO/IEC 17025 should not be confused with the quality management standard ISO 9001:2008. The latter is the generic standard for quality management systems applicable to all organisations irrespective of type, size, product or service provided. It does not require evaluation of the technical competence of a laboratory. ISO 9001 should not be regarded as an ‘acceptable’ alternative to ISO/IEC 17025. This is because with certification to ISO 9001 the emphasis is on establishing an organisations compliance with requirements for a quality management system, it does not contain technical requirements for personnel and operations.
Identifying a UKAS accredited ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory is simple, each UKAS accredited testing laboratory is permitted to display the National Accreditation testing symbol."
Click on the links below to see why your drug and alcohol testing providers should meet the new UKAS standards:
UKAS is the sole national accreditation body recognised by Government to assess, against internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services.
The UKAS logo is the internationally recognised symbol indicating independent evaluations and shows that an organisation upholds the highest quality standards for its products and services.
Other Quality Standards:
The FTS Home Office Licence number is: 109263 FTS have proficiency certification for the analytical identification and quantification of drugs and alcohol markers in hair from the European Quality Reference centre in Germany: the GTFCH, which is a bi-annual certification process. FTS have proficiency certification for the analytical identification and quantification of drugs and alcohol markers in hair from the Society of Hair Testing (SOHT) and we are also members of the SOHT.
